Surgical Treatment

Commenti disabilitati su Surgical Treatment

M. Pescatori, MD FRCS EBSQ, is a colorectal surgeon, accredited by the European Board, honorary president of the Italian, Mediterranean and Eurasian societies, and Chairman of a Coloproctology Unit.

He trained at St Mark’s Hospital in London, lectured at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and has been working twenty years at the Policlinico Gemelli, Catholic University. He has a Professorship at La Sapienza University of Rome. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Techniques in Coloproctology, a Springer-Verlag indexed journal and edited several books.     His website is www.ucp-club.it, his e-mail is ucpclub@virgilio.it and he works with a multi-disciplinary equipe at the Salus Medical Center, tel 06 5091 5305 and at the Parioli Clinic, tel 338 5315 864, both in Rome.

His deals with prevention and treatment of anal, rectal and large bowel disease and with perineal and pelvic floor dysfunctions, such as intestinal tumors and polyps, ulcerative and Crohn’s colitis, anal fistulae, fissures and condilomata, hemorrhoids, chronic constipation and fecal incontinence, rectocele, rectal prolapse megacolon and diverticulosis.

Malignancies require a surgical treatment, whereas benign disease may be often treated by conservative measures, such as drugs or rehabilitation. When an operation is required, it may be carried out  using mini-invasive day-surgery procedures in most cases. Piles and fissures may be also treated by means of office procedures. An holistic approach is often used, which considers both psyche and body, as many diseases have a psychosomatic component.

Proctoscopy, endoanal and perineal dynamic ultrasound and anal electrostimulation for anorectal pain are also carried out at his Unit.
